Chicken Inn out to deflate Simba Bhora

Sport

CHICKEN Inn will be out to sabotage Simba Bhora’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s title retention chase, as they battle for a safer spot on the log-table, when the two sides clash at Wadzanayi Stadium in Shamva this afternoon.

Last Sunday, the GameCocks dumped Dynamos with a 3-0 victory at Barbourfields to move three steps up the ladder to position 11 with 26 points, but the points’ difference with the teams below them are negligible as the competition remains stiff in the second half of the season.

But the big win against DeMbare gives the Joey Antipas-coached side the much-needed confidence ahead of the match against Simba Bhora, who are aiming at stretching their lead on the table with 44 points as the race for the honours heats up at the top as well.

Antipas is up for the challenge against Simba Bhora, albeit missing some key players in his squad.

Dominic Jaricha, Brighton Makopa and George Majika have been ruled out of tomorrow’s tie, while Lyonth Chikuhwa and Joseph Tulani, who picked up injuries during the match against Dynamos, are available for selection tomorrow.

“It’s a very challenging game for us against the log leaders, who are a very good side and loaded with quality,” Antipas said.

“We are coming from a positive performance and good win against Dynamos. We have to play well and be focused if we entertain any hopes of a positive result.

“We have to start picking up the points and steer away from the dreaded relegation zone. We have been doing well of late, so I just hope the boys will come up with good performances in our games to come.”

He added: “We have players still on the injury list, but they are making good progress. Dominic Jaricha and Brighton Makopa have started light training.

“Lynoth Chikuhwa and Joseph Tulani have both recovered from last weekend’s knocks and will be available, but George Majika is out with ankle injury.”

They are up against Simba Bhora, who have failed to pick up maximum points in their last two games with a defeat to TelOne and a draw to Manica Diamonds, but maintain a stranglehold at the top, with Scottland FC chasing with 43 points and MWOS on 42 as well as FC Platinum on 40 points, respectively, as the battle for supremacy takes centre stage.

Scottland are away to FC Platinum at Mandava, while MWOS also hit the road to Rufaro for a date with struggling Dynamos.

Both matches will be played today.
