Zimbabwe Premier Volleyball League

BLACK Mambas women have maintained their top position in the Zimbabwe Premier Volleyball League (ZPVL) standings, while UZ Wolves men surged to the summit with a three-point lead after getting two wins during the weekend's games at the University of Zimbabwe.

Mambas opened their account with a 3-0 win against Chimoio and a 2-0 drubbing of Southern Aces on Saturday.

On Sunday, the league leaders were equally impressive, hammering Diamonds 3-0.

Ravenclaw are breathing heavily down the Mambas' necks, tied on 18 points, although the log leaders have played one game less.

UZ Wolves women are in third place, tied on points with the top two teams, having played the same number of matches as Ravenclaw, but with an inferior ratio compared to Ravenclaw.

Harare City women moved to fourth from sixth place on 14 points, boasting a superior ratio of 1.888 against fifth-placed Southern Aces, who also have 14 points but a ratio of 1.454.

Ravenclaw took the glamour off Diamonds with a 3-0 win and also beat Vipers 2-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, they beat Lycans 3-0.

On the men's side, UZ Wolves had a tough match against Crocs, but emerged unscathed 3-2 after a hard-fought deciding set on Saturday.

They then secured maximum points with a 3-0 walkover over Titans, completing their weekend assignment on a victorious note.

Black Mambas are in second place in the men's division with 14 points. Ruwa occupies third place with 13 points, while Shalom (12) and Crocs (10) complete the top five slots on the men's log table.

The next volleyball action will be the Inter-Provincial championships scheduled for Harare on August 23 and 24.
