IN a move that sent shock waves through Zimbabwean football, flamboyant Castle Lager Premier Soccer League debutants Scottland FC announced the sensational signing of national team legend and former captain, Knowledge Musona, yesterday.
The ground-breaking transfer, arguably the biggest and certainly the most expensive in Zimbabwean football history, marks a triumphant return home for the "Smiling Assassin", who has never before graced the local league in his illustrious career.
Musona, who departed Saudi Pro League side Al-Okhdood last month after his contract expired, was unveiled to a rapturous reception at halftime during Scottland FC's 1-0 victory over Yadah FC yesterday.
The win propelled the ambitious newcomers into second place on the log, one point behind leaders Simba Bhora, with 43 points from 23 matches.
"I don't have much to say, I just want to thank Scottland for this opportunity," the 35-year-old stated during his unveiling.
"They asked me to move back home and finish my last year enjoying football in Zimbabwe. So I can't wait to get on the field of play.
"I promise that I am going to do my best. I am here to help the team win games, score goals and to assist. I am not sure if I am going to score in my first game, but I will make sure this team wins as many games as possible."
Musona's signing further cements Scottland FC's reputation for flexing their considerable financial muscle in their audacious bid for the league title.

The move will see the former Kaizer Chiefs, Anderlecht, Hoffenheim and Al-Taee forward link up with his younger brother, Walter Musona, who currently captains Scottland FC.
This will be the first time the two talented siblings play together in the same league, a prospect that has fans buzzing with anticipation.
Scottland coach Tonderai Ndiraya could barely contain his excitement at the prospect of unleashing the formidable trio of Knowledge, Khama Billiat and Walter.
"Knowledge is coming back. If we all recall, there was a time when the nation was on the shoulders of the two players, Knowledge and Khama," Ndiraya said.
"So I think that was the whole idea of us bringing Knowledge into the team so that they can link up again with Khama Billiat. And hopefully that partnership, of Knowledge and Khama, then of course, Knowledge and his young brother Walter. I hope that these two combinations will bring something to the team. And if you recall, I think in our last international friendly matches, they also played like that. So, we are relishing that opportunity to see them lining up in our next matches," he said.
Having plied his trade in the highly competitive leagues of South Africa, Belgium, Germany and Saudi Arabia, Musona's decision to conclude his illustrious career in his homeland speaks volumes.
It's a testament to Scottland FC's ambition and their ability to attract top talent, even those with a long and successful history abroad.
