MWOS FC drop points gain

MWOS FC..................... (1)1

Herentals FC................. (1)1

High-flying debutants MWOS FC appear to have lost their mojo after they went four matches without a win for the first time in top-flight football, following a 1-1 draw against Herentals FC at Ngoni Stadium yesterday.

Tino Benza gave Herentals FC the lead halfway through the first half, but Billy Veremu restored parity six minutes later.

It was Veremu's 11th goal of the season, making him the  joint top scorer with TelOne's Washington Navaya.

MWOS remained in second place with 42 points from 23 matches, while Herentals are seventh with 35 points from the same number of matches.

The Punters' coach, Lloyd Mutasa, bemoaned the two points dropped.

"Honestly, it's two points lost,” Mutasa said. “I think we have always been clamouring for wanting to settle down first before the opposition.

“We got the chances, we fluffed them, and then we gave them the advantage.

“If you give the opposition an advantage, like the mentors, it will be difficult to come back and come out of it.”

His counterpart, Paul Benza, expressed delight at picking up a point away from home.

"I am definitely collecting a point away,” Benza said.

“For me, it is very important because, at the end of the day, what matters most is not losing in the games, so I am happy.”

It was a high-octane affair from the first whistle, with the hosts enjoying a slight edge.

Veremu had a golden chance to break the deadlock inside the first 10 minutes but headed over from close range.

However, it was Tino Benza who broke the deadlock after the visitors launched a swift counter-attack.

A Willmore Chimbetu inch-perfect cross from the right was met with a thumping header by Benza, who beat Martin Mapisa at the near post.

With action swinging from one end to the other, Veremu equalised for the hosts barely six minutes later from a quick transition.

After starting the move from the halfway line, Nigel Matinha sent a dangerous cross across goal which was bundled home by Veremu for his 11th goal of the season.

The second half offered end-to-end action, but very little goal-mouth excitement. In the end, the match petered out into a draw.
