Zifa kicks off women's football strategy consultations

Zifa vice-president Loveness Mukura

THE Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) is set to embark on a vital series of regional stakeholder consultations this week, aiming to lay the groundwork for a robust and inclusive women’s football strategy.

The initiative, running from June 24 to 27, 2025, marks a significant step in Zifa’s broader commitment to transforming football across the nation, with a specific focus on the women's game.

Kicking off in Harare, at Cresta Oasis this morning, they will then move to Gweru (Regency Fairmile) tomorrow, Bulawayo (Cresta Churchill) on Thursday, and conclude in Masvingo (Regency Chevron) on Friday.

Each session is scheduled to run from 9 am to 4 pm.

Presiding over these pivotal sessions will be Fifa football technical expert, Thubaelihle Sibanda, alongside Zifa vice-president Loveness Mukura and members of the Women’s Development Committee.

"These consultations form a key component of Zifa's broader roadmap to transform football in Zimbabwe, with a specific focus on building a robust and inclusive women’s football strategy. The programme will include high-level presentations, stakeholder discussions, and group work exercises designed to shape the future of the women’s game," Zifa said.

Sibanda brings a wealth of international experience to the consultations. As a Fifa women’s football technical expert, she has been instrumental in implementing 25 Fifa women’s football development programmes across more than 12 countries worldwide.

Her impressive track record includes supporting the development of women’s football strategic plans in Namibia, Rwanda, Ghana, South Africa, and most recently, the Seychelles.

A Caf instructor since 2024, Sibanda is renowned for leading capacity-building workshops and training administrators across the African continent.

Sibanda's expertise extends to supporting the Fifa Football 4 Schools project roll-out and capacitating coaches in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Currently based in Namibia, Sibanda's practical coaching experience is equally extensive.

Sibanda holds the prestigious Fifa Master/CIES International Master in Sport Management, Law and Humanities qualification, complemented by undergraduate studies in Sports Science and Coaching.

She is a Uefa and Caf coaching licence holder, demonstrating a strong balance of technical and administrative knowledge of both local and international football and the broader sports industry.

Sibanda's involvement underscores Zifa's commitment to creating a comprehensive and effective strategy that will undoubtedly propel women's football in Zimbabwe to new heights, the association said.
