Mushore poised for Czech Republic move

Sport
Mushore's agent, Gilbert Sengwe, confirmed the impending move, though he remained tight-lipped about the specific club.

WARRIORS and Highlanders midfielder Mason Mushore is on the cusp of a potential move to the Czech Republic, where he is set for trials with an unnamed club.

The opportunity could mark his breakthrough into European football.

Mushore's agent, Gilbert Sengwe, confirmed the impending move, though he remained tight-lipped about the specific club.

Sengwe stated they are awaiting approval of the gritty midfielder's visa application, which will pave the way for his travel to the European country.

Tomorrow's Bulawayo derby against Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium could be Mushore's final appearances for Highlanders if he successfully secures a deal abroad.

"We are still processing the matter. He [Mushore] is supposed to go to the Czech Republic, but it’s too early to divulge the name of the club for now," Sengwe said. "Let's finish this process, and when he gets there, then we can start talking. At present, we are working on the visa; we are 99% done with the paperwork requirements. We are just waiting for the visa to be out. We are just waiting for the embassy to approve, then he can travel."

Highlanders spokesperson Nozibelo Maphosa, when approached for comment, indicated that the club would release a statement on Mushore in due course.

Meanwhile, Chicken Inn are hoping their recent victory will bolster confidence ahead of the Bulawayo Castle Lager Premier Soccer League derby against Highlanders.

Chicken Inn secured a 1-0 win over visiting Ngezi Platinum Stars at Luveve on Wednesday, their first home triumph among the three victories achieved in 16 games this season.

They are determined to claim another victory to climb out of the danger zone in the log standings.

The first half of the season wraps up this weekend, and it has been a challenging period for Chicken Inn.

Following their win against Ngezi Platinum, coach Joey Antipas commented: "We are just hoping that the result will give us a lift. We just have to keep on working hard at training. I think this will give us a good lift coming into the Highlanders match. All we have to do is stay cool and work hard."

Historically, the Gamecocks have often found it less difficult to beat Highlanders, who last defeated them in a league match in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2022, the two sides played back-to-back draws. In 2023, Chicken Inn collected four points from the Bulawayo giants, securing a 2-0 victory in September and a draw in April.

Last year, the Gamecocks continued their strong run, beating Bosso 2-1 in April before another goalless draw in August.
