Golfers set for Macau Masters

The support from Bard Santner will be instrumental in ensuring the athletes are well-equipped and ready to represent their nation on a global stage.

Zimbabwe is once again making its mark on the international golf scene, sending a formidable three member team to compete at the prestigious Macau Golf Masters 2025 in China next week.

The world’s biggest golf tournament for athletes with disabilities, running from June 25th to 27th at Macau Golf and Country Club, promises to be an unforgettable event, embodying the spirit of "Golf With Purpose" and "Inclusion Through Sport."

Team Zimbabwean comprises three talented Isaac Emmanuel Gutu, who will compete in the 18-hole category, and Simbarashe Mushayi and Selassi Chiwisa, both participating in the 9-hole event.

Leading the team as Head of Delegation is celebrated golf coach Simon Murungweni.

A special send-off and kit handover ceremony was held in Harare, where Special Olympics Zimbabwe expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Bard Santner for their generous sponsorship of the team's kit.

"We express our heartfelt gratitude to Bard Santner who have sponsored the Special Olympics Zimbabwe  Macau golf team kit and gave them a resounding send off. The team comprising three athletes and one head coach while they will also be accompanied by one family member. We wish our team all the best," Special Olympics Zimbabwe said in a statement.

The support from Bard Santner will be instrumental in ensuring the athletes are well-equipped and ready to represent their nation on a global stage.

The team, brimming with optimism and determination, is set to depart for Macau tomorrow.

One of the golfers Gutu expressed excitement about making his second appearance at the tournament.

"I am very excited about this trip. This is my second time going to this event and with the experience that got the last time I believe this time I am going to do well. I want to encourage other people out there to take up sports because you can end up travelling to other countries to represent your country," he said.

 This participation underscores Special Olympics Zimbabwe's commitment to providing opportunities for athletes with disabilities to showcase their talents and achieve their full potential.

The Macau Golf Masters 2025 is not just a tournament; it's a testament to the power of inclusion and the unyielding spirit of these remarkable athletes.
