Antonio ready to pay Warriors’ bill

Antonio, who is expected to feature in upcoming international friendlies against Burkina Faso and Niger, plays for KV Mechelen in the Belgian Pro League and has been out of action since March last year.

ZIMBABWEAN international winger Bill Antonio rejoins the Warriors squad in Morocco, months after suffering a serious knee injury.

Antonio, who is expected to feature in upcoming international friendlies against Burkina Faso and Niger, plays for KV Mechelen in the Belgian Pro League and has been out of action since March last year.

He recently returned to competitive play with his club two months ago and is now in line to represent his country.

“I can say that it’s good to be back,” Antonio said, expressing gratitude for his recovery and reintegration with the squad.

“Though it’s been a long time with the injury and everything, I’m grateful that I’m back now with the guys.”

The 22-year-old joined KV Mechelen in 2022 from Castle Lager Premier Soccer League giants Dynamos, initially playing for the development side before being promoted to the senior team.

His recent injury has been a significant setback in his burgeoning career.

“Football is a collective sport,” he noted.

“You might have individual objectives, but the collective objective, those are the ones that come first.”

Antonio also highlighted the importance of hard work, dedication and passion in achieving results for the national team.

His inclusion in the squad suggests that Warriors coach recognises Antonio’s potential to contribute to the team, particularly with his speed.

“I and the guys, we have to show passion, courage, fearlessness, and for sure we achieve great things,” the Warriors winger said.

The Warriors play Burkina Faso on Friday before entertaining  Niger four days later.

Both matches will be played in Morocco.
