The First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Open teed off this morning with at least 60 young golfers from eight different countries including France and China taking part at it's traditional home, Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate.

In the past years the event has been dominated by South African golfers and this time around Zimbabwe golf prodigy Keegan Shutt, who won the inaugural event in 2022, is looking to reclaim the title in has last event as a junior golfer

There is competition in the boys class and girls class.

Speaking during the official opening and flag raising ceremony First Capital Bank chief executive officer Tapera Mushoriwa shared his sentiments of the event.

"It is an honour to welcome you all to the opening 2025 Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open Tournament, the fourth edition since 2022. As we raise the flag today, we celebrate not just the start of another tournament but the continuation of a powerful legacy that has begun with belief. Belief in youth, belief in potential, and at First Capital we say belief comes first," he said.

"When we first joined hands with the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association and the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club, we were driven by a shared vision to create a platform similar in prestige to the FBC Zimbabwe Open Golf but for young and emerging talent. What started as a bold idea has now become a highly anticipated international event attracting the best young golfers from across Africa and beyond.

"This year we are proud to host 60 players from 10 different countries aged between 13 and 19. Our field is full, the talent is undeniable, and the energy is electric. As the title sponsor, First Capital takes responsibility with deep pride and commitment.

"Our sponsorship is not just about funding, it's about a vision, about nurturing, about walking the journey of belief with every young golfer here. We are proud to be the pioneer in this space, proud to say we were first because we are First Capital and we are proud to believe in the golfers today. To us, every swing taken on the course is more than a shot, it's a declaration of possibilities," Mushoriwa said.

First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Open tournament director Hillary Kaseke took time to thank the title sponsors for their continued support of the event.

"This is the 2025 First Capital Bank, Zimbabwe Junior Open. This is the fourth edition and I would like to give out my gratitude to First Capital Bank for continuously sponsoring this tournament and supporting this event.
