Selemani ends Platinum goal drought

FC Platinum played their usual and exciting passing game, often slicing the Scottland defence open, but they fluffed chances.

SCOTTLAND. . . . . . . . . .(1) 1

FC PLATINUM. . . . . . . .( 0) 1

FC PLATINUM finally remembered how to score but they could not snap a four-match winless streak to settle for another draw against Scottland.

After seven matches, the former champions have a single win to their name and the rest are draws.

Before yesterday's match, they had played three straight goalless draws.

But coach Norman Mapeza is not worried.

"We are OK. I am not going to put anyone under unnecessary pressure," Mapeza said. "The good thing is that we are playing good football, we are creating chances, this is how we have been playing and we want to continue playing like this. We will come good. What I am focusing on are the positives. Selemani scored a fantastic goal, we had chances and we could have scored another one. I can't say I am relieved that we finally scored today because the boys have to do more."

This was a game that FC Platinum could have won, but captain Brian Banda somehow hit the post on a rebound from a Jarrison Selemani free kick after the break.

That chance came minutes after Selemani curled a pitch-perfect goal from a distance, which beat Nelson Chadya all systems out.

FC Platinum played their usual and exciting passing game, often slicing the Scottland defence open, but they fluffed chances.

FC Platinum had to do it the hard way after an early goal by Vasili Kawe had put them on the back foot.

Scottland also had their moments, but coach Tonderai Ndiraya was satisfied.

"It was a good game of football and an exciting match. We had our moments, they had their moments, I think Selemani scored a wonder goal, but we had talked about that if he comes in, we shouldn't give him space. We knew he was capable of scoring from such positions. We started well, but after scoring, we lost concentration and allowed FC Platinum to play. If you allow FC Platinum to play, they can hurt you and that's what happened. However, I think a point against FC Platinum is good. They have been around for a while, yet we are only just coming up."

With the point, Scottland dropped five points behind table toppers MWOS, who defeated Dynamos at Ngoni Stadium yesterday.

Scottland are now sitting on position four on the league table.

They could have stolen all three points after captain Walter Musona raced into the box, causing pandemonium, which ended with a goal-line clearance just after the break.

Towards the end of the match, substitute Nathan Mutasa came close from a well-taken free kick.

Next up is a trip to Kariba for Scottland while FC Platinum have a home match against Triangle.
