FBC Holdings pours US$200k into Zim Open

Speaking at the launch, FBC Holdings group chief executive officer Trynos Kufazvineyi was delighted with his organisation's continued support for the Zimbabwe Open.

FBC Holdings has committed a US$200 000 prize fund for the 2025 edition of the Zimbabwe Open, which is scheduled to tee off at Royal Harare Golf Club next month.

This is the fourth year on the trot that the financial services group has retained the title sponsorship of the event.

And the prize fund ultimately makes the country's flagship golf tournament one of the top three events on the Sunshine Tour.

Speaking at the launch, FBC Holdings group chief executive officer Trynos Kufazvineyi was delighted with his organisation's continued support for the Zimbabwe Open.

"I am here before you once again, filled with immense joy and a sense of fulfilment, as we gather to announce our contribution to the development of golf in Zimbabwe and the southern African region at large. This sponsorship is a testament to the FBC group's commitment to support development and social impact," he said.

"FBC Holding is a responsible corporate leader which is committed to making meaningful contributions to the social, environmental and economic well-being of the communities we serve. Our corporate social responsibility efforts are informed by the evolving needs of society at large.

"We may focus on aligning with national, regional and global development priorities, including the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that are popularly known as the SDGs. Over the years, the FBC Holdings Group has become a dominant player in promoting the development of golf in Zimbabwe.

"Today, we are pleased to announce that the FBC Group has committed a sponsorship of US$200 000 towards the 2025 Zimbabwe Open tournament. Allow me to emphasise that, as FBC Group, we are proud to be the sponsors of the 2025 Zimbabwe Open tournament," he said.

This year will mark the 13th edition since the reintroduction of the Zimbabwe Open in 2010. It  will run from May 4 to 11.

A total of 144 golfers, including at least 17 local professionals and five amateurs, will take part in the tournament.

This year, the tournament will include corporate social responsibility initiatives with a focus on raising funds for cancer treatment.

Zimbabwe Open Committee chairperson Livingston Gwata emphasised the tournament's commitment to golf development in the country.

“We stage this national event to showcase golf being played at a world-class level. It is a clear hope that this will inspire our upcoming young golfers to attain the highest level in the sport,” Gwata said.

“Over and above the tournament being an inspiration to our young sports people, it is also meant to be briefly entertaining for golfers and non-golfers alike.

“The Zimbabwe Golf Association(ZGA) has demanded to develop golf at amateur levels. In this regard, we, as the Zimbabwe Open Committee do not miss an opportunity to ensure that some of the proceeds from the national event are channelled towards golf development through the ZGA.

“In addition to golf development goals, we are pleased to announce that the 2025 event will provide a platform to facilitate the mobilisation of funds towards a charitable cause. The noble initiative will, this term around, focus on cancer treatment and we call upon both members of the party and corporate bodies to join us in making a difference to the wellness of our community. We will be sharing details of how you can participate in the coming weeks.”

Other partners of the event include Zimre Holdings Limited who are the associate sponsors for the second year running while anchor sponsors who include Golden Pilsener, Cimas and Firstlink Insurance Brokers.

Seed Co, Tongaat Hulett, Liquid Home Zimbabwe, African Sun, GuardAlert Security Services, Nomads and Alpha Media Holdings, among others, are also part of the event.
