LEADING Property developer, WestProp Holdings Limited, officially unveiled The Hills Championship Golf Course and launched its membership plan at a glittering ceremony at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Harare on Friday night.
The event was attended by the Zimbabwe-born and award-winning golf course architect Peter Matkovich who designed the golf facility which is expected to revolutionise the country's golfing scene.
The 18-hole championship golf course will be completed by December 2026.
However, the plan is to partially open it in July next year, with a soft launch allowing golfers to experience the course.
Matkovich, who won the best golf designer gong at the World Golf Awards last year, promised a world-class facility.
"It's an honour to be here. This is where I grew up and I love the people, I love the country and it just fills me up. So the first thing anybody wants to know is, is it going to be a great golf course? First of all, it's not about me. We've got a team here that is world class and they know what we want, how to put it on the ground and that is what counts," he said.
"The other thing is to build it to certain specifications because, at the end of the day, we know people judge a great golf course by its condition. So, the condition of this course is guaranteed because we are using the latest grasses on greens and the tees.
"We have done courses here and every time I come back two years later, they've just deteriorated because they haven't maintained it. Now we have a guarantee that we're going to look after this course for the first three years, guaranteed so those standards will be in place.”
