Will Scottland withstand PSL heat?

THE 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season roars into life tomorrow with the big question being: Who will be crowned the Kings of Zimbabwean football come November 30.

Will all the noise and the hype about Scottland FC be turned into gold?

The new boys spent heavily in the transfer market, including signing the 2022 and 2025 Castle Soccer Star of the Year, Walter Musona from Simba Bhora and the league’s top scorer in 2024, Lynoth Chikuhwa, from Highlanders.

Football writer Admire Muhimeke says Scottland may follow the path of Black Rhinos, who won the league title in their first attempt after spending big in 1984.

“Their recruitment was massive and they were spot on in their choice of players,” Muhimeke predicts.

“I see them repeating what Rhinos did in 1984 after massive signings from Caps United and Dynamos.”

However, Richard Sande, who was voted the second top supporter in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in the 2024 season, has a different opinion.

“I have no doubt that Caps United will take it,” he says confidently.

“We have brought Kundai Benyu from abroad and a number of players too from other countries.

“The team that coach Lloyd Chitembwe has built is very strong.”

Caps United club president Farai Jere has promised huge financial pickings for his players and has also brought on board Farai Tawachera as another of the assistants to Chitembwe.

Prominent football fan Adomso Mukwasi believes TelOne would be the surprise package this season

“I know a lot of people might not agree, but I think the team to watch this season will be TelOne. Mark my words,” he says.

Another of the football followers Francis Kaowa says this season promises to be an entertaining show, but is worried that referees could spoil the whole show.

“This is promising to be a season full of entertaining football,” Kaowa says.

“All the teams have done their preparations to satisfaction.

“I am appealing to the referees not to spoil the good show.”

Simba Bhora, in particular, proved that they have recovered their shape after losing a number of their star players to Scottland, including Musona and Tymon Machope, during the Castle Challenge Cup last week.

Dynamos coach Lloyd Chigove has built his side around captain Emmanuel Jalai, with the experience of Shadreck Nyahwa, Nomore Chinyerere, Enasio Perezo, Donald Dzvinyai and Temptation Chiwunga also coming at hand.

Ghanaian import Frank Agyemang has shown promise for goals and with his defence opening skills, he could also turn up to be the creator of goals for others.

Fan Captain Franco, however, took his time to make his prediction for the season.

“I think the big teams Caps United and Dynamos will give a good show, but Simba Bhora, Scottland and TelOne should not be discounted.”

The last time Caps United or Dynamos took the title was way back in 2016 when Makepekepe took the championship under Chitembwe and since then, the Green Machine and DeMbare have struggled to make an impression.

In summary, most of the football fans have picked Caps United, Dynamos, FC Platinum, Simba Bhora, Scottland and TelOne as potential 2025 Zimbabwe soccer champions, but have unfortunately ignored the threat of Manica Diamonds, Ngezi Platinum, Chicken Inn and even MWOS FC.
