TZ president Walter Jera announced the resignation of Mukurumbira, effective October 18, in a Press statement yesterday.

TENNIS Zimbabwe (TZ) general manager Kupakwashe Mukurumbira has severed ties with the association barely two years after assuming the reins.

TZ president Walter Jera announced the resignation of Mukurumbira, effective October 18, in a Press statement yesterday.

“It is a mixed bag of gratitude and sadness under which I announce to you the official resignation of Kupakwashe Mukurumbira, as general manager of Tennis Zimbabwe, effective October 18, 2024,” he said.

“Kupa, as he was affectionately addressed, spearheaded great changes during his stint as general manager, among them being the resurgent growth in our partnerships with private and public organisations, implementation of programmes in coach education and rejuvenating the junior tennis initiative (JTI) in conjunction with the JTI co-ordinator/technical director, increase in publicity of tennis programmes on various media platforms, improvement in performances and resource mobilisation for our junior and senior tennis teams, plus the rebranding of tennis.

“Tennis Zimbabwe is truly grateful to Kupakwashe for the energy, vision and passion that he dedicated to our organisation. On my own behalf and that of the board, I wish him the absolute best in all his future plans and endeavours.”

Added Jera: “As we transition this phase, please be advised that Linsent Chitiyo, who is the technical and JTI co-ordinator, will serve as acting general manager as the executive begins the process of permanently filling the position.”

Mukurumbira was appointed in 2022 following the resignation of Cliff Nhokwara.

“I have worked for Tennis Zimbabwe for two years and I resigned to pursue professional growth and development opportunities,” he said.

Mukurumbira is a safeguarding sports strategist, speaker, researcher, trainer and the founder of Dominion sport.
