DYNAMOS coach Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe says there is no room for complacency when they face relegation-threatened Arenel Movers in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields Stadium tomorrow.
The Glamour Boys lost their last two league matches to Chicken Inn and Caps United and with five games to the end of the season, they sit on position nine on the log table with 38 points from 29 games.
DeMbare are, however, beaming with confidence after beating Yadah in a penalty shootout to make it to the semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup in which they face Manica Diamonds.
Chigowe says Dynamos will not treat Arenel with kids’ gloves.
“We do not underestimate them (Arenel) at all. They are in the PSL by right and not by accident. We take them seriously and there is no room for complacency,” he said.
“These teams up their game when they play against Dynamos. We are also at a stage where players market themselves so that they are identified for greener pastures and you cannot afford to be just losing points.”
Midfielder Donald Mudadi and goalkeeper Prince Tafirenyika are out injured.
Dynamos are only six points away from fourth positioned Highlanders with five games (with a potential of 15 points), which could see the Glamour Boys end with 53 points if they win all their remaining games.
Chigowe said his wish is to end the season in the top four.
“We have a tough schedule of games ahead of us but a top four finish will be respectable at the end of the season,” he said.
Arenel Movers anchor the log standings with just 22 points from 29 games.
They have won four times, drew 10 games and lost 15.
Arenel lost to Dynamos 2-1 in the reverse fixture in Harare and their coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube believes it is possible for the sweet makers to survive demotion from the top league.
“We are not going to respect Dynamos. We are going to fire from all cylinders. Each of the games that are remaining for us will be a cup final,” Beefy said.
“If we win all five remaining games, we end the season on 37 points and that will leave us with a chance to survive.”
It’s Arenel’s first season in the top league.
Meanwhile, Chicken Inn entertain relegation-threatened TelOne at Luveve Stadium today.
The GameCocks are on position six with 42 points, while TelOne on ranked 11 with 35 points and need an outright win away from home to enhance their chances of a stay in the PSL.
