WARRIORS striker Prince Dube is in a fix after he tied himself to a six-year contract with Tanzanian club Azam, which he is struggling to free himself from.
Dube is no longer interested in playing for Azam and has written to the club to free himself from the contract, but the club is demanding a hefty sum to let him go.
Although the former Highlanders forward’s reasons for wanting out have not been stated, Azam’s head of information and communication Thabiti Zakaria confirmed receiving correspondence from Dube’s camp.
“Azam FC confirms receiving a contract termination letter from Dube requesting that he wants to leave after joining the club in 2020,” Zakaria said.
“He has submitted his letter to the management which has already responded ... the contract he signed before the start of this season keeps him at the club until 2026.
“As such, until now, he has two and half years to parade at the club and the management has maintained that he can leave only if the terms of the contract are adhered to.”
NewsDay Sport understands that Azam are not keen on releasing Dube unless they are paid US$300 000.
Dube’s destination after Azam is yet to be established.

The 27-year-old striker joined Highlanders in 2016 and had an unsuccessful stint at South Africa’s SuperSport United in 2018 under fellow countryman Kaitano Tembo, before returning to the Bulawayo giants.
In 2020, he joined Azam, where he has had a brilliant stay to date, albeit punctuated by injuries.
He made his international debut for the Warriors in 2017 in a goalless draw against Zambia and has of late been regularly called-up for national duty.
He was part of the team which took part in the Fifa 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria last November.
