THE Highlanders chairman election race is becoming interesting with veteran broadcaster Ezra "Tshisa" Sibanda said to be considering throwing in his hat for the hot seat.
Sources have indicated that Sibanda is one of the club members considering entering the race.
However, the journalist, who is in South Africa on other business, could neither confirm nor deny his position, laughing it off with impeccable sources saying the broadcaster was consulting.
The elections, which will also usher in a new executive secretary and committee member, will be held on February 4, a week after the annual general meeting where the candidates for the three posts will be introduced to the members.
Incumbent Johnfat Sibanda is seeking to retain his post with former club chairman businessman Kenneth Mhlophe, former South African supporters chairman Nodumo Nyathi and businessman Edison Dube being some of the candidates for the post.
Mhlophe has appealed to the club members to thrust him back to lead the club.
"It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of commitment that I write to you today, seeking your support for my re-election as the chairman of our beloved club. As some of you may recall, during my previous tenure as chairman, I had the privilege of initiating several plans aimed at elevating Highlanders to new heights. These plans were carefully crafted with the sole purpose of making our club not only successful on the field but also an institution that fosters growth, unity, and excellence," Mhlophe said.
In his last post on Facebook, Nyathi said: "Don't praise me, criticise me (constructive criticism). Seeing shortcomings reveals avenues to keep growing. Preferring corrections to compliments is a sign of skill. The better you get, the more determined you become to get better."

Efforts to get through to Dube were unfruitful throughout the week after having promised Standardsport an interview.
Nominations for the elections have been opened and candidates pick up their nomination papers upon payment of US$200.
Announcing the elections, the club said: "Aspiring candidates must obtain appropriate nomination forms from the club office, 50 Robert Mugabe Way, Bulawayo, for which a refundable fee of US$200 is payable should a candidate poll in excess of 10% of total votes cast. Closing date for submission of the completed forms will be Saturday, 20 January 2024 at 12 noon. Payments for forms can be done at the office or through bank deposit to the bank account provided."
