DYNAMOS coach Genesis Mangombe is looking to atone for the disappointment of missing out on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title by winning the Chibuku Super Cup final this weekend.
The Harare giants clash with the league champions Ngezi Platinum Stars in what promises to be a cracker of a cup final match at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro Ngezi on Sunday.
Mangombe’s men pushed Ngezi all the way in the league race, but fell short in the end, eventually finishing third on the log table.
He said the weekend game presents a chance for his side to make amends.
“Playing in the final means we are doing something good,” Mangombe said at the club’s Press conference yesterday.
“We failed to win the league championship and couldn’t finish second. We want to make sure that our fans are happy by winning the Chibuku Super Cup.”
Dynamos players were in high spirits as Mangombe took them through their paces in preparation for the big game.
“I’m happy because I have a healthy squad. Everyone is there and ready. I have a selection headache for the final 11. The players are motivated already and what is left is just to do some bit of tactics.”

For playing in the final, whether winning or not, Dynamos will play in the Caf Confederations Cup next year, and Mangombe also took time to speak about his team’s return to Africa for the first time in almost a decade.
“It’s good for the team and for the country as a whole. Being the biggest club in the country we are hoping to lead by example by doing well in the competition. We won’t go into the competition to make up the numbers, but to make our names known and to announce that Dynamos is back.”
“It’s good for me on a personal level and as the club because at the end of it all, you have to say I managed to achieve and win this medal. We are trying our level best to win the cup and add it on our trophy cabinet. We have done well this season and the cup can cap it off. It will be the biggest achievement for us this year,” the former Yadah Stars coach added.
The coach also praised his stars Tanaka Shandirwa and Donald Mudadi, who made it to the Soccer Star of the Year’s 11 finalists whose winner and the first and second runner-up will be announced at a banquet tonight.
“I’m very happy for them. These guys did very well and it's very unfortunate that some of the players from my team could not make it onto the list. Junior Makunike, Frank Makarati and Kelvin Moyo all had a good season but did not make it. Still I’m happy for them because they played well.”
