Chitembwe laments ‘criminal’ defence lapses

Their 2-1 defeat to FC Platinum marked the seventh match they have failed to collect maximum points.

CAPS United head coach Lloyd Chitembwe has lashed out at his team's defending lapses as “criminal,” as the Green Machine slowly glides towards the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s dreaded relegation zone.

The Harare giants have been struggling of late, particularly in the second half of the season in which they are yet to register a win.

Their 2-1 defeat to FC Platinum marked the seventh match they have failed to collect maximum points.

Godknows Murwira scored an own goal, while Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya scored FC Platinum’s second goal, with Blessing Sarupinda notching Caps United’s consolation goal.

They have only managed to collect a paltry three points from the seven matches with draws against Black Rhinos, ZPC Kariba and Triangle.

And they lost to PSL leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars, Manica Diamonds, Herentals and most recently to FC Platinum.

For Chitembwe, his team's “criminal” defence lapses has been the reason they have performed below par in this campaign.

“I attribute everything to nervy moments. Some of the mistakes we made in the first half were criminal, so to speak” Chitembwe said.

“Decisions have been poor. Execution has been bad. I’m not so happy with the overall team performance.

“We are failing to handle the pressure. These games are won by those that manage pressure. This is probably one thing we need to work on.”

Caps United dropped to tenth place with 26 points on their tally after 22 matches. They face another tough test against Chicken Inn at Bata Stadium on Sunday.
