Man convicted for raping nine year-old

The convict, Passmore Vuta, appeared before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa last week.

A 29 year-old man from Dzivarasekwa, Harare is awaiting sentencing after he was found guilty on charges of allegedly raping a juvenile.

The convict, Passmore Vuta, appeared before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa last week.

Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti said the sexual assault happened sometime between 2015 and 2016.

It is alleged  that Vuta forced himself on the then nine-year-old girl and later threatened her not to report the matter to anyone.

The complainant told the court that she was going to Nehanda with her nephew when the accused asked her to follow him to the maize meal.

She told the court that Vuta had sexual intercourse with her without her consent and later promised her US$2 to buy her silence.

In June 2022, the complainant was seen following a boy student to the school toilet.

When asked why she wanted to go with the boy, she said she wanted to have sexual intercourse with him.

Upon questioning, she confessed to her teachers that she was sexually abused.  A report was filed leading to the arrest of the suspect.
