Two suspected fraudsters appeared in court

Two suspected fraudsters who allegedly duped unsuspecting home seeker of US$5 200 appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court facing fraud.

The duo Tawanda Jambwa and Charity Masondo appeared before magistrate Appollonia Marutya who granted them US$100 each.The complainant is Ruvimborwamwari Mukuze.

Allegations are that sometime in July 2024, the complainant thought of purchasing a residential stand and began searching for an ideal person who could assist him.

The complainant was then referred to Jambwa by his friend and he approached him.

lt is alleged that Jambwa indicated that Mukuze had a stand which she was offering for sale In Msasa Park, Harare.

Jamba then took the complainant to Mukuze who indicated that she was the owner of stand number 4747 of the remainder of stand 560 Chadcombe Township measuring 501 square meters which she was offering for sale at a purchase price of US$ 10 000.

The complainant requested to view the stand and was taken to the said stand by the two accused persons.

The accused persons assured the complainant that the stand had no pending issues and upon viewing the stand, the complainant was satisfied and both parties agreed that upon payment of a deposit of at least US$ 4500, the complainant would take occupation of the Stand.

lt is alleged that on July 19, this year the complainant paid a deposit of US$ 4500 to the accused persons and an agreement of sale was signed between the complainant and Mukuze whilst Jambwa signed as a witness.

Mukuze signed an acknowledgement of receipt of the money and on 30 August the complainant made another payment of US$ 700 to the accused persons.Mukuze also signed an acknowledgement of receipt of the money.

 

When the complainant tried to occupy the stand, he discovered that it belonged to another person.

 

The complainant tried to engage the accused persons but nothing materialized and they started ignoring compiainant’s calls and became elusive.

 

 On 21 November 2024, the complainant made a report to the police and investigations made by police led to the arrest of the two accused persons.

 

The total value prejudiced is US$5 200 and nothing was recovered.
