Man kills sister's baby with machete

Court hammer

A Chipinge man allegedly killed his sister's baby with a machete over a domestic dispute.

The 37-year-old Musikavantu Chirigo from Mbeure village allegedly became angry and attacked his sister Uria Porai Chirigo (21) who was sleeping under a tree at their father's house.

Uria sought refuge in a kitchen, and locked herself in, but Musikavantu broke the window to force entry, forcing her younger sister to flee with her baby on her back.

Musikavantu chased her, and eventually caught up with her.

He struck the baby with a machete, killing her instantly.

Musikavantu appeared before magistrate Nixon Mangoti on Wednesday facing murder charges.

Mangoti did not ask Musikavantu to plead but advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

He was remanded in custody to October 1.-
