A-28-YEAR-OLD man from Pumula South in Bulawayo has been arrested for stealing 10 buckets of Mopane worms (amacimbi) worth US$700.Thandazani Ncube, however, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja last week. He was granted US$30 bail.
He was remanded to January 29 for trial.The complainant in the matter is Nothando Ncube.
The court was told that on December 22 last year at corner Fife Street and 5th Avenue in Bulawayo, Ncube approached the complainant who was selling Mopane worms.Ncube allegedly pretended as if he wanted to buy 10 buckets which he loaded onto his pushcart, but he went away without paying. The complainant reported the matter at the Bulawayo Central Police Station leading to Ncube's arrest.
The stolen amacimbi were worth US$700 and nothing was recovered.
