Cop steals US$40 fine

A Bindura-based police officer allegedly squandered a US$40 fine that had been paid by a suspect, who was facing charges of sleeping with a minor.

The matter came to light at the Bindura magistrates’ courts last Thursday when Benson Justine (32) appeared before magistrate, Toendepi Zhou.

Justine was remanded in custody to tomorrow for trial.

Prosecutor Clement Kuwanda alleged that on August 6 Niah Misheck was arrested for having sex with a minor.

Justine demanded a US$40 fine from Misheck's brother, Blessing.

Blessing paid the fine, and Justine squandered the money, leading to his arrest.
