AN armed robbery incident rocked the Mbizo 4 shopping centre in Kwekwe in the Midlands province when six unidentified suspects stormed into a fast-food outlet and got away with cash and a vehicle.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the case, saying it occurred on June 28 this year.
“Six unidentified suspects, who were travelling in an unregistered vehicle, approached the premises and stormed into the outlet armed with an unidentified pistol,” he said.
“They reportedly ordered everyone present to lie down before holding the security guard at gunpoint.”
Mahoko said while some of the suspects restrained the guard and customers, others stole money from cash registers and patrons.
“The gang made off with cash amounting to US$361 and a Mercedes-Benz vehicle belonging to one of the patrons. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned approximately 300 metres from the scene,” he said.
“The total value of stolen property is estimated at US$10 361, with the recovered vehicle alone valued at US$10 000.”
Mahoko said investigations were ongoing.
