A PRIMARY school in Mwenezi has been selected for a pilot village business unit as part of government’s drive towards rural industrialisation.
Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Ezra Chadzamira said the pilot project, set for Turf Primary School, would boost food security and stimulate local economic activity through school and community gardening initiatives.
“This is a key step towards achieving Vision 2030. Turf Primary will serve as a model for how rural schools can contribute to sustainable livelihoods,” Chadzamira said.
The selection of Turf Primary School for the pilot project was announced during belated Independence Day celebrations held at the school over the weekend.
Chadzamira said the project was a practical step towards promoting local economic empowerment through agriculture.
He cited ongoing investments in marula and sesame processing plants at Rutenga growth point as signs of progress towards rural industrialisation within the district.
“Mwenezi is one of the districts that have scored mileage in rural industrialisation, as witnessed by the processing plants at Rutenga,” he said.
Mwenezi East legislator Sheillah Chikomo expressed support for the project, saying it will transform lives in the constituency.
