Binga woman nabbed for killing daughter

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi

POLICE in Hwange have arrested a woman from Mujimba 9 in Siabuwa, Binga district in Matabeleland North province after she confessed to killing her six-year-old daughter who was living with disability.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the woman as Melody Mwiinde (23).

The murder took place on April 23 this year. Mwiinde was arrested two days later.

“The suspect allegedly killed her daughter (6) by hanging her with an electrical cable from a tree branch. The body was dumped in a disused hut” Nyathi said.

He said Mwiinde confessed that she killed her daughter because people were mocking her for keeping a child with disability who was disowned by her father.
