Illegal gold planners on the run

The fugitives Casper Ncube (39) and Mandlenkosi Tshabangu (24) had appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware facing charges of illegally prospecting for gold.

The Plumtree magistrates court has issued a warrant of arrest against two men from Matobo who are on the run after they were charged for illegally gold panning.

The fugitives Casper Ncube (39) and Mandlenkosi Tshabangu (24) had appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware facing charges of illegally prospecting for gold.

They had been remanded out of custody on US$20 bail and were supposed to appear in court on April 14, but they did not turn up.

The court heard that April 4 this year, the suspects proceeded to Matobo national park along Maleme river where they illegally prospected for gold.

On the same day, rangers from Matobo National parks got information to the effect that the two were prospecting for minerals.

The rangers went to investigate.

The two failed to produce their prospecting license, leading to their arrest.
