TWO Bulawayo men are behind bars in connection with the murder of a fellow imbiber following a misunderstanding over a cellphone.
Provincial acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele identified the suspects as Munashe Mpofu (18) and Prince Mhlophe (28), both from Robert Sinyoka in Bulawayo.
The incident occurred on April 10 around midnight.
“The now-deceased, Welcome Ncube and his cousin were drinking beer in Zondiza Sports Bar at Pumula Old shops when the suspects approached them accusing Ncube of lying that their friend had stolen a cellphone,” Msebele said.
The suspects then dragged Ncube outside and stabbed him.
He was rushed to hospital, where he was admitted.
A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Ncube succumbed to the injuries two days later.
