The suspects Leonard Sibanda (45), Enock Sibanda (36) Sikhathele Mpofu (45) and  Sinikiwe Matshazi(40) appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware last week

Two cellphone thieves from Plumtree were involved in an accident in their getaway car, leading to their arrest.

The suspects Leonard Sibanda (45), Enock Sibanda (36) Sikhathele Mpofu (45) and  Sinikiwe Matshazi(40) appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware last week

Enock and Matshazi had their charges withdrawn before plea.

Leonard and Mpofu, however, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 18 months in jail.

Six months of their sentence was suspended for five years.

The complainant was Prosper Nyaude from Plumtree.

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa told the court that on March 10 along Plumtree-Mphoengs road, Nyaunde was approached by the four who were driving a Toyota Vitz vehicle.

They disembarked from the car, threatened to beat him up before they forcibly took away his Huawei P30 cellphone before speeding off.

They were involved in an accident near a Puma garage, leading to their arrest.
