UMGUZA ward 6 councillor Busisiwe Brown is set to host a health fair in her area on March 29 with the community expected to access various medical services from specialised healthcare professionals.
The community travels long distances of approximately 7km to and from health institutions hence the health fair will be a relief.
Speaking to Southern Eye, Brown said the health fair was necessitated by the absence of a clinic in the area.
“I am hosting the fair as a councilor for ward 6 Umguza district. It’s the first one and I am hoping this will become an annual event. It is necessitated by the area not having a clinic or hospital in the ward. We are being serviced by Induna Clinic and Ntabazinduna Prisons and Correctional Services clinic. So I thought why not bring the services to the people,” she said.
“Villagers travel distances of not less than 7km. We are going to have all the experts and we got medication as well as dentists who will be doing extractions.”
The health fair is expected to offer services for free including HIV testing, blood transfusion, BP checking and dental services, among others.
