Criminals cause havoc in Cowdray Park

Ward 15 councillor, Aleck Ndlovu, said places near Mgiqika Primary School  were now no-go areas because of the thieves.

A BULAWAYO councillor has complained about the high crime rate in the city’s largest suburb of Cowdray Park saying residents are at the mercy of muggers.

Ward 15 councillor, Aleck Ndlovu, said places near Mgiqika Primary School  were now no-go areas because of the thieves.

“Police came and addressed residents after we sought their intervention over the high crime rate,” he said.

Ndlovu said they have also formed neighbourhood watch committees.

“Police told residents to avoid harbouring criminals because it defeats the purpose of neighbourhood patrols,” he said.

Bulawayo has been recording an increase of violence including armed robberies in recent months, according to police statistics.

Reports from the police show a significant increase from October compared to the same period of the previous year.
