BULAWAYO City Council’s economic development unit has approved the 2025 calendar of events which includes a line-up of significant activities to attract investment.

Latest council minutes state that town clerk Christopher Dube reported that the economic development unit played a crucial role in fostering economic growth, innovation and community engagement.

“The calendar encouraged collaboration among various stakeholders, including government, private sector and civil society.

“Engaging a diverse range of voices fosters a more inclusive approach to economic development and ensures that the needs of all citizens are addressed,” the minutes read.

“Therefore, approval of this calendar is vital for ensuring that these events receive the necessary support and resources.

“Economic development events play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and networking among various stakeholders in the business and local government sectors.”

Council noted that the events served as platforms for stakeholders to share insights, best practices and innovative strategies that contribute to the growth of the local economy.

“Events such as the International Municipal BRICS Forum (African Business Round Table) offered invaluable networking opportunities for local businesses,” the minutes further read.

“Connecting with international counterparts could help Bulawayo businesses to expand their markets and gain new insights into industry best practices.

“Additionally, these events often highlight key areas for economic improvement and development within the community.

“By focusing on the local economy’s strengths and challenges, the city can tailor its strategies to better support its businesses and residents.”

The minutes noted that events like the Bulawayo Women Investment Conference, Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Mine Entra and the Bulawayo Arts Festival were pivotal in promoting community engagement and diversity within the local economy.

“By bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs and industry professionals, these events promote the exchange of ideas and encourage collaborations that can lead to ground-breaking solutions for local economic challenges,” the minutes stated.

“This infusion of fresh ideas and technological advancements has the potential to drive economic diversification and sustainability.

“Furthermore, innovation-related events can boost the city’s visibility on national and international stages, attracting investors and high-skilled labour to the region.”
