A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, faces statutory rape and kidnap charges.
He is alleged to have been intimate with a 13-year-old girl whom he claimed was his girlfriend.
The suspect Clinton Kabvumbura (22) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mjanja to answer to a charge of sleeping with a minor and kidnapping.
He pleaded not guilty claiming they were in a relationship.
“The complaint and I agreed to be intimate and she had told me that she is 19 years old,” he told the court.
He was remanded in custody to February 24.
The court was told that on January 1, Kabvumbura went to the girl's residence and took her without the consent of her guardian.
The court heard that he went with the minor to a lodge and booked a room where they became intimate without protection.
