Siblings nabbed for murder, rape and robbery

TWO siblings from Bulawayo have been arrested for attempted murder, rape and robbery charges.

TWO siblings from Bulawayo have been arrested for attempted murder, rape and robbery charges.

Bulawayo police acting spokesperson Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the arrest of Enock Mukumbi alias Tinashe Mazorodze (26) and Roy Mukumbi (23) both from Upper Rangemore.

Msebele said on January 4, detectives from CID Nkulumane received reports of robbery, rape and attempted murder committed by the two.

The police launched an investigation which led to the recovery of an itel cellphone belonging to one of the complainants from a cellphone dealer in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo.

“During an interview with the second-hand cellphone dealer, he implicated Enock, who had sold him the phone under the alias Tinashe Mazorodze. This led detectives to track down Enock,” Msebele said.

“On February 9 detectives received a tip-off that accused person Makumbi intended to sell a cellphone belonging to another complainant at a shop along Lobengula Street, near PicknPay Lobengula Branch, Bulawayo. Acting on this information, detectives went to the location in the central business district and set a trap.

On arrival, Enock produced a Samsung A23 cellphone, which he intended to sell.

After completing the transaction, detectives closed in and arrested him.

Msebele said further investigation led detectives to the duo's residence intending to arrest Roy but he escaped.

Msebele said on December 26, 2024, at 10pm near Roman Catholic Church in Emganwini, the accused persons struck the complainant (22) of Upper Rangemore with an unknown object and robbed him of a cellphone.

"On January 2 at 7pm along an unnamed road in Pelandaba West, Bulawayo, both accused confronted a woman (19) of Pumula South, Bulawayo, produced a machete to instill fear in her. They demanded an itel cellphone and US$17 which she surrendered and she fled from the scene. The accused persons pursued the complainant who sought refuge in the neighbourhood,” Msebele said.
