A 42-YEAR OLD Chipinge man, who allegedly struck a rival suitor with a machete accusing him of dating his girlfriend, has appeared in court facing a charge of attempted murder.
The court heard that on February 4, the accused, Razane Muyambo, went to Green Valley in Chipinge to meet his girlfriend Tafadzwa Makuyana.
After two hours, the complainant, Robert Mtisi, who is also romantically involved with Makuyana, arrived at where the two were.
A confrontation ensued between Muyambo and Mtisi, escalating into a physical altercation, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said in a statement.
“During the fight, Mtisi picked up stones and struck Muyambo. In retaliation, Muyambo grabbed a machete and struck Mtisi three times on the head, causing severe injuries,” read the statement.
Mtisi collapsed, resulting in Makuyana screaming for help, prompting the accused person to flee from the scene, leaving the complainant injured and bleeding.
The complainant was rushed to Mt Selinda Hospital, where he is currently admitted.
The accused was remanded in custody to February 13.
