GWERU City Council has been urged to give feedback the same prominence it gave to the 2025 budget consultations when the government approves its budget.
Residents said this at a post-budget consultative meeting jointly organised by Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (Viset) and Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association (GRRA).
Viset executive director Samuel Wadzai said consultations between the local authority and residents should continue throughout the whole budget formulation cycle.
“City fathers should continue interacting with vendors, informal traders and residents after government approves the budget,” Wadzai said.
“Such feedback and interaction helps to keep track of council’s public finance management system.
“Residents need to know how the budget money is used and whether key priority areas such as education and health highlighted during consultations were addressed.”
GRRA director Cornelia Selipiwe echoed similar sentiments, adding that residents deserved feedback after the approval of the budget by government.
“People should not speculate on the budget approval,” he said.

“As residents, we need the final document just as the draft budget.”
Selipiwe said feedback on the approved budget helped residents to track whether their contributions in key service delivery areas were included.
Deputy mayor Nyaradzo Madzikura noted the demands of the residents.
“As council, we value our stakeholders and we will definitely give feedback once the budget has been approved,” she said.
Madzikura said vendors and informal traders were a key economic sector in the city and promised to create more vending spaces to deal with street trading chaos.
