TTI employee suspended for demanding bribe

TTI suspended Muziwakhe Tshabangu after he allegedly demanded  bribes at a parking lot outside a popular Bulawayo restaurant where he was apprehended by workers who effected a “citizen’s arrest” and force-marched him to company offices before making a formal complaint.

A TENDY Three Investments (TTI) parking management enforcement officer has been suspended for allegedly demanding bribes from motorists in Bulawayo.

TTI suspended Muziwakhe Tshabangu after he allegedly demanded  bribes at a parking lot outside a popular Bulawayo restaurant where he was apprehended by workers who effected a “citizen’s arrest” and force-marched him to company offices before making a formal complaint.

Tshabangu was reportedly suspended with immediate effect pending investigations by the company.

TTI has more than 300 employees, some in the metered ticket system division while others enforce the city by-laws such as proper parking, clamping and towing away of vehicles.

Tshabangu on Thursday was accused for demanding a US$10 bribe from a patron who parked outside the restaurant, something that did not go down well with the joint’s proprietor Jabulani Nyoni.

Nyoni said Tshabangu demanded a bribe from one of his patrons for not parking properly and insisted that if he was not given the money he would have the car towed away.

“I went outside the building to find out what was going on and that’s when another patron who was inside came out and said the same guy had demanded US$10 from him two hours back,” Nyoni said.

“It appears he has been targeting patrons outside my bar and restaurant so we decided to take him to the TTI offices and lay a complaint with his bosses.”

TTI managing director Bongani Nyathi said the company had a zero tolerance to corruption and confirmed that the employee has been suspended and investigations are underway.

He said motorists were encouraged to approach TTI offices and lay charges against any of their employees who solicited for bribes from them.

“TTI does not condone corruption and has a zero tolerance to the practice, which is against our company policy,” said Nyathi.

He said employees caught breaking company rules would be dealt with accordingly.

“We implore motorists to get receipts for any transaction carried out by TTI staffers,” he said.
