Lack of funds stalls Tsholotsho stadium completion

THE completion of Tsholotsho Stadium just outside the business centre is taking longer than expected due to funding challenges.

Tsholotsho Rural District Council chief executive, Nkululeko Sibanda, confirmed that no construction is taking place at the moment.

“We did not receive any devolution funds last year so there is no money to complete the project,” Sibanda told Southern Eye on Sunday.

Last month, NewsDay reported that lack of funds had stalled the construction of the Nkunzi Registry Office which was supposed to be completed in December 2024.

The registry, which is 100 metres from Nkunzi Clinic, is set to help local villagers have easy access to identity documents such as birth certificates instead of having to travel long distances to Tsholotsho to access such services.

Tsholotsho centre is grappling with water cuts which residents have attributed to Zimbabwe National Water Authority’s malfunctioning pumps. The residents at times have to endure a month without water.

Zinwa head of corporate communications and marketing Marjorie Munyonga attributed the challenges to power outages.

“We are using one borehole at the moment. Our team is working on the breakdown and we expect normal supplies to resume soon depending on the availability of power. There are serious power supply challenges in Tsholotsho,” Munyonga said.
