Employer’s son in trouble over attempted murder

Bernard Sibanda who is employed as a herdboy in Kosvoro village under Chief Masunda, irked his employer’s son, Khulumani Sibanda, after he was found in possession of a missing cellphone.

A ZVISHAVANE man is battling for life in a hospital after his employer’s son beat him to a pulp on suspicion that he had stolen a mobile phone.

Bernard Sibanda who is employed as a herdboy in Kosvoro village under Chief Masunda, irked his employer’s son, Khulumani Sibanda, after he was found in possession of a missing cellphone.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“There is a case of attempted murder where a man is battling for his life at Zvishavane District Hospital after he was attacked by his employer’s son. The incident occurred on December 30, 2024 at about 10pm.

“Circumstances around the case are that on the fateful day Bernard Sibanda was at home together with his employer. At about 10pm Khulumani Sibanda the son to the employer arrived home drunk,” Mahoko said.

“He confronted Bernard and asked him to release his cellphone which went missing some days back. It is alleged, Bernard went to his room and brought the cellphone. Angered by this, Khulumani assaulting Bernard with a sjambok all over the body. He went on to strike him with an empty beer bottle on the head and all over the body. He was refrained by his mother Gladys.”

Police attended the  scene, took Bernard to Zvishavane District Hospital where he is admitted. He is in a serious condition.

“The suspect is on the run. We are appealing for any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect. We urge members of the public to solve disputes amicably,” Mahoko said.
