A man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in a commuter omnibus at the Beitbridge border post has been remanded in custody.

The 27-year-old man from Mabhidhi village allegedly raped the girl on December 23 while she was travelling from South Africa with her parents.

Prosecutors  said the accused person, who was on the same commuter omnibus, fondled the girl’s breasts and inserted his fingers into her private parts before raping her after they were left alone in the vehicle.

The matter came to light when the complainant asked her mother to accompany her to the toilet to change her clothes.

She revealed her ordeal when her mother questioned her why she wanted to change her clothes.

The matter was reported to the police at the Beitbridge border post, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
