A 57-year-old woman from Khwali Village in Tsholotsho’s ward 21 is admitted at Mpilo Central  Hospital in Bulawayo after she was attacked by a lion.

Villagers told Southern Eye on Sunday that they were living in fear of lions after they were spotted in their area searching for food and water

“The lions have been spotted in Khwali, Dikili, Tshefunye, Nshaba and Mathetshaneni,” ward 16 councillor Isaac Moyo said.

"We have informed the villagers to be careful, but I don't want to lie, they are scared.

“They are suggesting that I call a meeting so that we can discuss mobilising everyone to embark on a search party with dogs to chase away the lions.”

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said the authority was worried about the safety of the villagers.

“We are also going to do awareness campaigns, teaching our communities the basics on what to do when they encounter wildlife and most importantly to discourage communities from moving  around during the night, especially in areas where there are animals,” Farawo said.
