FOUR Gweru City Council employees were dragged to a disciplinary hearing on Friday for allegedly booing management during the burial of their colleagues, who suffocated in a sewage manhole.
Richard Longwe and Mary Svinurai died on November 6 after inhaling suspected toxic gases while working in the sewer manhole.
Council alleged that Silas Mutendeudzwa, Olivia Masunda, one Ngazimbi and Yvonne made malicious utterances and false statements on social media and during the burial of their co-workers.
The four were subsequently suspended on November 13.
"You are hereby advised that the disciplinary hearing between city of Gweru and yourself will be held on Friday 29 November in the committee room, municipal offices, civic centre at 1430 hours in the afternoon," reads the letter written by the city's acting chamber secretary Tapiwa Marerwa and copied to council human resources manager, Joseph Zimusi.
“You are also further advised that the hearing will proceed even if you fail to attend."
Information gathered by Southern Eye on Sunday indicated that the four employees have been barred from reporting for duty, entering council premises or acting on behalf of the local authority during the suspension period.
