RESIDENTS of Bulawayo’s high-density suburb have expressed concern over limited healthcare services and other challenges in the city.
Ward 28 councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu expressed concern over the dire situation in his ward, emphasising the need to address the health issues.
He said the shortage of ambulances, which hampered residents’ access to emergency medical care, was of great concern to residents.
“The unavailability of ambulances has not changed substantially, impacting the residents’ access to emergency medical services.
“Efforts to address this issue are on-going, but there is a need for increased resources and better management to ensure residents receive timely medical assistance.
“The availability of healthcare services is limited and many residents face challenges in accessing basic medical care, the situation is exacerbated by inadequate infrastructure and resources, which strain the local healthcare system.”
Ndlovu said the health of residents in Cowdray Park was of major concern due to the ward’s size and rapid population growth.
“Improving healthcare delivery requires substantial investment in medical facilities, staff and equipment to meet the growing needs of the community,” he said.

“The ward's distance from rapid response stations exacerbates the problem, as ambulances must travel from surrounding areas to respond to emergencies.”
Earlier this year, Cowdray Park residents’ leaders raised concern about the underdevelopment of the area and overflowing Blair toilets, which pose significant health hazards.
