ZANU PF Bulawayo Province has endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as its preferred candidate for the 2028 elections amid succession fissures within the party.
The endorsement comes barely a month after Mnangagwa said he would not continue in office when his term ends in 2028 as he wants to rest.
Since then, Zanu PF party provinces have increased the noise in their clamour for Mnangagwa to continue in office beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms.
Zanu PF party’s provincial spokesperson for Bulawayo Archibald Chiponda told Southern Eye that they have resoundingly called for Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2030 to give him ample time to complete Vision 2030.
“At the Zanu PF Bulawayo Province inter-district meeting held at Davis Hall on Sunday, Zanu PF Bulawayo structures resoundingly and thunderously called for his Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2030 to give him ample time to complete Vision 2030 of transforming Zimbabwe to an upper-middle-income society,’’ Chiponda said.
He said the inter-district meeting was graced by the party’s national political commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, politburo members from the province Elifas Mashaba, Molly Mpofu and Eliphas Tshuma and provincial chairperson Jabulani Sibanda.
Other provinces such as Masvingo have already endorsed Mnangagwa for the 2028 elections.
Mnangagwa has not called the provinces to order for going against his wishes.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF youths from Mashonaland East province at the weekend resolved that Mnangagwa should extend his tenure beyond 2028 saying this will allow him to personally see the fruition of Vision 2030 and deliver Zimbabwe to the promised land.
