A MBERENGWA man has been sentenced to an effective five years in jail for pouring acid on a colleague following an altercation over snooker tokens.

Tafadzwa Mpofu (26) of Village 7 in Mutekedza, under Chief Mazivofa, was dragged to the Zvishavane Magistrates Court on a charge of attempted murder.

He was sentenced to six years imprisonment, and one year was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on May 27 this year at Mutekedza shops, Mpofu had an altercation with Riller Ndlovu (29) over snooker tokens before he disappeared.

Mpofu later poured acid on Ndlovu’s head and face before fleeing.
