A 43-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo car dealer is on the run after conning clients of over US$100 000, provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube has said.
He identified the suspect as Itayi Chipfakanya of Nkulumane, the proprietor of Quality Motors Company.
“He dealt in buying and selling of motor vehicles, misrepresenting himself to nine unsuspecting complainants and promising them to import motor vehicles of their choice on their behalf,” Ncube said in a statement.
Ncube said between September 2021 and September 2023, Chipfakanya collected money from clients promising to deliver their vehicles within six weeks.
“After the lapse of the agreed time, Chipfakanya became evasive and failed to deliver. His mobile numbers are no longer reachable, leading to the complainants making police reports.”
Ncube said the suspect conned nine clients.
His first victim, who wanted a Toyota Fortuner, was conned of US$35 000.
“... the seventh victim, who wanted to buy a Mazda CX-5, suffered a prejudice of US$8 000. The eighth victim, who wanted to buy a Toyota Axio, suffered a prejudice of US$4 700 and the ninth victim, who wanted to buy a Nissan Juke, suffered a prejudice of US$5 900.”
