GWANDA city mayor Thulani Moyo has appealed to the local business community, farmers, miners, civil servants and diasporans to assist the underprivileged in the Matabeleland South provincial capital.
In a notice on Monday to the business community and various stakeholders, Moyo wrote: “As I am calling upon everyone who is blessed by God through having or reaching the level where you are now by choice and favour from God, therefore can you pass on.
“My motto, my theme is Pass On. Please can this be a Gwanda theme. Tell your friends in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Botswana, everywhere that it is time to pass on, let’s give.”
“As much as you go for picnics and eat nice; if you are a civil servant, you go and swipe every month; businessman, miners, farmers, let’s all make the less privileged, vulnerable, (diffently abled), orphans, widows, old age; swipe and have groceries that will be donated every month by the Mayor’s team. They must get like everyone until God says it’s over,”he said.
He also implored the privileged to assist children who cannot afford school fees, including school dropouts.
“Gone are the days of fighting and politicising everything, we must put heads together and develop our town. Remember it’s our heritage,” he added.
