Nust, ex-Zpra commander embroiled in land dispute

Local
Retired Colonel Ngwenya accused Nust of vandalising property at his Mizpha farm in Solusi.

The National University of Science and Technology (Nust) is embroiled in a farm boundary dispute in Plumtree, Matabeleland South with ex-Zpra senior commander, Thomas Ngwenya.

Retired Colonel Ngwenya accused Nust of vandalising property at his Mizpha farm in Solusi.

This emerged in court where Nust is facing charges of malicious damage to property.

The value of the damaged property is US$500.

The institution is represented by its employee  Nanzelelo Ndlovu (37).

The trial failed to take off on Tuesday before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware after the defense said they were not ready.

Nembaware postponed the matter to November 14.

The court heard that between June and July this year at Mizpha farm, Nust, through its employees allegedly damaged a boundary fence belonging to Ngwenya’s farm.

They share a boundary.

According to the state, Ngwenya visited his farm and discovered that his peripheral boundary fence had been cut by Nust employees to create a through road.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Nust being taken to court.

Initially, Ngwenya had filed charges against the individuals who broke his fence but the matter later had a turnaround in which the charge became directed to Nust. Ngwenya retired from the Zimbabwe National Army in 1990 after which he embarked on contract work with the United Nations, where at one point he was sent to Iraq where he was in charge of logistics.

He is a holder of six medals, including the Independence and Outstanding Performance During the Liberation Struggle medals.
