ZimTrade, CZI forge export push

ZimTrade and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing an export manufacturers initiative to boost the competitiveness of local manufacturers and help them penetrate international markets.

ZimTrade chief executive, Allan Majuru, said closer collaboration between trade promotion agencies and industry was necessary to translate production capacity into sustainable export growth.

“The initiative would focus on developing practical solutions for manufacturers seeking to expand beyond the domestic market, with the partnership bringing together ZimTrade’s export development expertise and industry knowledge from manufacturers,” he added.

Majuru said the collaboration was also important in ensuring that support provided to manufacturers was informed by the realities confronting businesses on the ground.

“The initiative is about strengthening the competitiveness and export readiness of Zimbabwean manufacturers,” he said.

Majuru said closer engagement with industry would enable the organisation to tailor its interventions towards the specific needs of manufacturers and help businesses move from producing for the local market to competing globally.

“This is a partnership that brings together the strengths of ZimTrade and industry to develop practical and strategic solutions for manufacturers,” he said.

The initiative is expected to support the country’s industrialisation agenda by promoting value addition, improving product quality and increasing the number of locally manufactured products reaching export markets.

Analysts said the MoU marks a shift towards a more coordinated approach between trade promotion institutions and the manufacturing sector, with export competitiveness placed at the centre of efforts to grow the country’s industrial base and foreign-market presence.
